Nederlander\u00a0and\u00a0Nederlander Presentations, Inc.\u00a0are thrilled to announce the Broadway return of\u00a0Tony and Emmy Award winner\u00a0Billy Crystal\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Mr. Saturday Night<\/strong>, a new musical comedy about one comedian\u2019s meteoric rise to the middle. Performances begin at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Street) on March 1, 2022 and the show officially opens on March 31, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em><meta charset=\"utf-8\"><\/em><strong>Mr. Saturday Night<\/strong><\/strong> is the story of Buddy Young Jr., an outrageous and outspoken comedian who found fame, if not fortune, in the early days of television.\u00a0 Now, some 40 years after his TV career flamed out, Buddy seeks one more shot at the spotlight, and while he\u2019s at it, one last shot at fixing the family he fractured along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MR. SATURDAY NIGHT\u00a0will also feature Tony Award winner\u00a0Randy Graff\u00a0(City of Angels,\u00a0Les Mis\u00e9rables) as Elaine Young;\u00a0David Paymer\u00a0(City Slickers,\u00a0Quiz Show,\u00a0State &amp; Main), who is recreating his Oscar-nominated performance as Buddy\u2019s brother Stan Yankelman;\u00a0and\u00a0Chasten Harmon\u00a0(The Good Fight, Elementary,\u00a0Broadway\u2019s\u00a0Hair) as agent Annie Wells.\u00a0Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Crystal returns to the role of Buddy Young Jr. that he portrayed in the original 1992 Columbia Pictures film of the same name, which also marked his directorial debut. The book for the stage musical is written by\u00a0Billy Crystal, Lowell Ganz\u00a0and\u00a0Babaloo Mandel.\u00a0The score for\u00a0<meta charset=\"utf-8\"><strong>Mr. Saturday Night<\/strong>\u00a0features music by three-time Tony Award winner\u00a0Jason Robert Brown\u00a0(Parade, The Bridges of Madison County) and lyrics by Tony Award nominee\u00a0Amanda Green\u00a0(Hands on a Hardbody). Tony Award winner\u00a0John Rando\u00a0(Urinetown, On The Town) will direct. The production will feature choreography by\u00a0Ellenore Scott\u00a0(associate choreographer,\u00a0Head Over Heels).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCreating and portraying the 75-year-old comedian Buddy Young Jr. in the film of\u00a0<strong>Mr. Saturday Night<\/strong>\u00a0was one of the highlights of my career \u2013 30 years ago I needed 5 hours of make-up to play him, now I just show up. It\u2019s been a joy to collaborate once again with the brilliant and hilarious Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, my co-writers from the film, and to be joined by the wonderful team of Jason Robert Brown, Amanda Green, Ellenore Scott and directed by John Rando. And it doesn\u2019t get any better than sharing a stage with Randy Graff, my old friend David Paymer, and Chasten Harmon.
