Brown<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>Once On This Island, Choir Boy<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Fire Shut Up in My Bones<\/em>\u00a0&#8211; Metropolitan Opera Fall 2021), begins performances at Broadway\u2019s\u00a0Booth Theatre\u00a0(222 West 45<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Street), home to the original 1976 production, on\u00a0Friday, March 4, 2022, with the opening night set\u00a0for\u00a0Thursday,\u00a0March 24<sup>th<\/sup>, 2022.\u00a0Casting will be announced at a later date.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOf all the shows to be given as an opportunity to debut as a first-time Broadway director and choreographer,\u00a0<em>for\u00a0colored\u00a0girls<\/em>\u2026\u00a0feels like a gift,\u201d said\u00a0Brown.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m\u00a0thrilled that I\u2019ve\u00a0been entrusted to combine all the parts of myself \u2014 dance, music and theater arts \u2014 to shape and share this timeless story again with the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The show marks\u00a0Camille A. Brown\u2019s\u00a0directorial debut on Broadway. Brown, who served as choreographer on the 2019 production of the play at\u00a0The Public Theater\u00a0off-Broadway, will also continue in her role as choreographer on Broadway, making her the first Black woman to serve as both director and choreographer on a Broadway production in more than 65 years.\u00a0<em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Black girl magic is reborn. Ntozake Shange\u2019s\u00a0<strong><em>for\u00a0colored\u00a0girls who have considered suicide\/ when the rainbow is enuf<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0is the \u201clandmark of American theater\u201d(<em>The New York Time<\/em>s) that blazed a trail\u00a0for\u00a0generations to come. Now, this celebration of the power of Black womanhood returns to Broadway\u00a0for\u00a0the first time, reinvented, directed, and choreographed by \u201ca true superstar of theater and dance\u201d (<em>NPR<\/em>), Tony Award\u00a0nominee\u00a0Camille A.
